My travels began when I migrated as a teenager from New Delhi, the city of my birth, to Solan, a small town in the foothills of the Himalayas, where I completed my preliminary studies. The last two years of my high education, were spent in a Swiss boarding school, where I gained my ‘International Baccalaureate diploma’ in addition to my high school one.
I chose the picturesque, University of California Santa Barbara to pursue a ‘Mechanical engineering’ degree with a focus on design and material sciences. The memorable years spent on the west coast groomed me well allowing me to emerge as a true global citizen. After graduating in 2006, I returned to India and joined my family’s special metal parts & strip manufacturing business, Shivalik Bimetal Controls Ltd., as a production manager. While working as an engineer, I enrolled in a (part-time) post graduate program in ‘Material sciences and Technology’ at Loughborough University, UK. This step exposed me to the latest materials research and technology while also growing my niche network.
When a key individual from the supply chain management (SCM) department decided to leave, I joined and revamped the supply chain team. After three years in the SCM department, I was promoted to the position of Executive director (Supply chain). My diverse responsibilities included: procurement, vendor development and negotiation, logistics, communications with external commercial entities, operations and inventory management, banking functions, department wise financial assessment, entrepreneurship, strategy as well as defence marketing liaising with Indian Ordnance factories (Indian Army) for a new tender. Each year I would travel and meet our raw material suppliers based in United States, France, Germany, Sweden, China and Japan, to negotiate new annual contracts, prices and terms. During my tenure as Executive Director I oversaw total yearly procurements valued at USD $16 million, growing 10% annually, implemented inventory planning program saving the company $400,000 and introduced competitively priced but quality approved vendors thereby further increasing the bottom line $90,000. I hold a ‘Material science and technology’ certificate from Loughborough University, UK and a ‘Cornell Executive Management Program’ (CEMP) certification from Cornell, UK. I have recently completed the ‘Master of Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology’ (MBET) program from University of Waterloo, Canada and have shifted my base to Toronto. I actively associate with start-ups, incubators, accelerators, angel investors and entrepreneurs based in various sectors globally. Currently I am working as a ‘Director of Business development’ for MagPress Valves Inc. and serving as an ‘Advisor’ in two start-up ventures.
