York Angel Investors Response to COVID-19

To our valued ecosystem and community stakeholders,

At York Angel Investors (YAI), we are committed to creating an exceptional experience for not only our members, but for all our ecosystem and community stakeholders. With growing concerns over the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), I wish to openly communicate and update you on the rapidly evolving situation and the steps that YAI will be taking, based on latest facts and information. The health and safety of our members, staff and partners, as well as the start-up entrepreneurs are our top priorities during this period of uncertainty surrounding COVID-19.

While Canada continues to be low risk, we know this could change rapidly and we must be prepared. There are two situations in which the COVID-19 virus is more easily transmitted: during travel and at events where people gather together. At YAI, we have determined that must now limit our exposure to these activities.

With that in mind, effective Monday, March 16 thru April 10, we will be implementing the following procedures and pre-cautionary measures to increase “social distancing”.

  1. Changes to in-person YAI meetings/gatherings
  2. Elimination of non-essential in-person group meetings for YAI staff and volunteers

Meeting Changes

At YAI, we will continue the scheduling of our Investment Meetings, screening meetings and training, but move them to a virtual platform. Please note that invitations to non-YAI members will be limited during this time.

Non-Essential In-Person Meetings at YSpace

Unless deemed essential, we request that all in-person meetings with YAI employees between March 16 – April 10, be adapted or cancelled to reduce risk. If you have meetings scheduled with YAI staff or volunteers, please do one of the following:

  • Change the format to a videoconference, teleconference, or a virtual on-line meeting (recommended)
  • Postpone or cancel the meeting

Currently, YSpace will remain open, if you must meet with YAI staff or volunteers, we encourage you to take preventative measures such as enhanced hand washing and social distancing during your meeting.

Non-Essential YAI Business-Related Travel

Please be advised that unless deemed essential, all YAI staff and volunteers may adapt or cancel their participation in 3rd party events between March 16 – April 10, to reduce exposure to unnecessary health risks. This could include, but not limited to: business meetings, conferences, pitch contests, mentoring sessions, and start-up office hours. If you have meetings scheduled with YAI staff or volunteers, you may be requested to do one of the following:

  • Change the format to a videoconference, teleconference, or a virtual on-line meeting (recommended)
  • Postpone or cancel the meeting

What Happens Next

Through these uncertain times, YAI will remain operational. We will continue to update you as new information becomes available.

Take care
